Responsibilities:
Algorithm Development: Design, develop, and implement optimization algorithms and mathematical models to solve complex operational problems in port management, such as berth scheduling, vessel routing, and resource allocation.
Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets from various sources including port operations, shipping traffic, and environmental factors to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for optimization.
Simulation and Modeling: Build simulation models to assess the impact of different operational strategies and scenarios on port efficiency, resource utilization, and environmental sustainability.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, software engineers, and port stakeholders to understand requirements, define optimization objectives, and integrate solutions into existing port management systems.
Performance Optimization: Continuously evaluate and refine optimization algorithms to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability, ensuring that solutions meet performance targets and operational constraints.
Documentation and Communication: Document algorithm designs, implementation details, and simulation results effectively. Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders through reports, presentations, and discussions.
Skillsets:
Tools : Proficient with optimisation solvers such as Gurobi, GLPK, CoinOR.
Strong Mathematical Background: Proficiency in mathematical modeling (e.g. AMPL, GAMS, JuMP, PuLP), linear and nonlinear optimization, probability theory, and statistics.
Programming Skills: Advanced programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, with experience in algorithm development and optimization.
Operations Research Techniques: Solid understanding of operations research techniques including linear programming, integer programming, dynamic programming, and simulation.
Data Analysis: Experience with data analysis tools and libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) for processing and analyzing large datasets.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to break down complex problems, identify key variables and constraints, and develop innovative optimization approaches to address them.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences in a clear and understandable manner.
